NFL: Washington Redskins to Part Ways With Robert Griffin III
The Washington Redskins are set to part ways with quarterback Robert Griffin III after the team's season ended following their 38-15 home loss to Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wildcard Round on Sunday. It signalled the end of a disappointing season for Griffin, who is set to be released by the Redskins soon.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it's only a matter of time when Washington announces the release of the 25-year-old QB. The former second overall pick did not play a single regular season game for the Redskins in the 2015 season following his demotion after suffering from concussion in the preseason.
RG3 have already cleaned up his locker room and it is safe to say that he will not be playing in a Redskins uniform next season. CSN Mid-Atlantic captured a video of Griffin packing up his belongings before leaving a note on his locker. You can view the video and see the note below.
The note is a reference to "The Paradoxical Commandments" written by Dr. Kent M. Keith in 1968 and is based on a poem by Mother Teresa. It appeared underneath a frame with Bible verses from Philippians, per ESPN.
He was approached by reporters, but declined to make any comments saying, "I don't plan on talking." Griffin was also seen at the end of the Redskins-Packers game giving hugs and saying his goodbyes in the sidelines. Teammates and coach Jay Gruden have nothing but respect for Griffin for how he handled his situation, especially for a former Heisman winner and first-round pick.
"I know he grew a lot being a third-string quarterback here, but I think with the skill set that he has and what he learned from the Shanahans and the new stuff that he learned from us, I think will make him a better quarterback wherever he goes, however it works out for him," Gruden said.
Bleacher Report noted that Washington does not have the money to pay RG3 $16.2 million to play backup to Kirk Cousins, who is set for a big payday after leading the Redskins to the playoffs. The team has until March 9 to release Griffin and the Dallas Cowboys are expected to make a run at signing RGIII.
