Creepy Desitnations and Ghost Towns in Latin America
Most people want to visit nice places when they go on vacation. But some are more adventurous than others that they prefer to explore unusual places.
One of the most favorite destinations for people looking for more "kick" in their trip are spots that possess pretty landscapes and have that sense of mystery around them. There are places like these on earth and many can make the skin crawl even at first sight.
Moreover, creepy places are scary but people still insist on visiting them due to curiosity and unique experience. For tourists who want to feel that horror-like chill down to their bones, here are a few places to go to when visiting Latin America:
Peru: The Vampire of Pisco
In Lima, there is a small town called Pisco. This is a picturesque township surrounded by vineyards and resorts. But there is one scary myth associated to this quiet place.
Based on Daily Mail UK's article, an English woman named Sarah Ellen Roberts was put to death by the townsfolk after being branded as a vampire, witch and murderer. People believe she is one of Dracula's three brides.
When she died, her husband John Roberts, traveled the world to find a burial ground for her because the Church of England refused to have her body buried anywhere in its land. Eventually, Roberts found Pisco in Peru, the only place to allow her burial.
Before she was executed in 1913, she swore that she will rise again to take revenge in 80 years. But when the that time came which was in 1993, nothing spooky ever happened in Pisco. Then again, in 2007, a powerful earthquake shook the town and people were shocked to discover that only her tomb remained intact and untouched.
Lima, Peru: La Casa Matusita
The La Casa Matusita in Lima is considered one of the most haunted homes in Latin America. The origins of the house remained a mystery and so many stories were told over the years. Most of these tales narrate how the tortured ghosts came to haunt the home.
One popular story told by the locals claimed that the ghosts belonged to the people who were massacred while having a dinner party. All of them went mad and horribly killed each other. The other version is that a man killed his whole family before committing suicide.
Locals said that the haunted house's second floor is the most scary section of the building. They say that those who set foot at that part of the house will lose their sanity.
Costa Rica: Sanctuary Resort
This is a ghost town of abandoned buildings. The once 4-star resort has that eerie ambiance that visitors just stopped coming in. In the end, its operation and construction of other parts were halted. The place was eventually shut down. It was said that there are still a few rooms being rented out to really brave tourists who would like a spooky experience.
Chile: Humberstone and La Noria Ghost Town
La Noria was a mining town in the 19th century. The workers were treated like slaves and suffered very hard labor. The town was abandoned after an economic slump and the mines were shut down.
Before the town was deserted, many people, including children, died horrible deaths due to slavery and bad living conditions. The bodies were buried not far from the town and today people fear going to this place.
People claimed that the deceased rise at night and they roam around the town. The shallow, opened graves make the stories terrifying and convincing that many people refuse to enter this ghost town. They also said that people who come here never return.
