Son of Batman Movie, Trailer & Release Date: Animated Shorts Honor Anniversary Of Dark Knight
A new Batman animated short debuted last week in honor of the Dark Knight's 75th anniversary celebration.
Batman was born in 1939 under the Detective Comics Issue #27; more than half a century later Batman's influence and image has lived on in more comics and books, animation, TV shows and films, toys, merchandising, and cosplay.
As promised by DC Entertainment and Warner Bros., Batman has been celebrated in two animated shorts. One animated short related to the classic Batman debuted one week prior, while the futuristic Batman debuted a few days ago (see below).
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. promised that in April that audiences would receive two animated shorts, and they delivered. On April 8, the Bruce Timm animated short debuted, which was a reflection on Batman through the years. And on April 18, a second animated short, created by Darwyn Cooke, featured a more futuristic "Batman Beyond" version of the character. While Batman has been going for 75 years, the voice-over actor who has given life to Batman, Kevin Conroy, has been voicing the caped-crusader for 22 years; Conroy's voice is featured in the "Batman Beyond" animated short, Yahoo! Movies reported.
According to Newsarama, the character of Terry McGinnis will be appearing as the Batman of the Future in a new weekly series "Futures End," a proposed comic book series DC Comics has plans for in their publishing for the next several months.
By May/June, another Batman animated film is expected to be released, "Son of Batman." Then, in August/September there is the highly anticipated animated film, based off the video game Batman: Assault on Arkham. While in July, at the Comic-Con International: San Diego, there will be "The Cape/Cowl/Create" art exhibit, which will feature contemporary artists painting on a cape and cowl, designed by Asher Levine.
Then, on Wednesday, July 23, it's Batman Day. DC, along with comic book retailers, bookstores, and libraries will be providing special celebrations. A free Batman comic give-away is also expected.
In the fall, "Gotham," a TV series that tells the story of a younger Commissioner Gordon, Batman's ally and friend, is expected to debut. Also, a young Bruce Wayne is expected to appear, Entertainment Weekly reported.
