Radio Host Tells Donald Trump He Will Win Latinos Because 'Men Don't Like Reporting to a Woman'
Conservative radio host Michael Savage suggested that Hispanics will vote for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton because the culture is sexist and "macho," and "men don't like reporting to a woman."
During an interview with Trump on Monday, the controversial talk show personality stated that the GOP front-runner will gain Latino votes should he face off with Clinton in the general election since Hispanics believe that women are inferior.
"The reason Hispanics are going to vote for you," he said "is because, to be honest, and it's very clear, the Hispanic culture is a macho culture. Men don't like reporting to a woman. It's just the way the culture is," said Savage before asking Trump about his popularity with Hispanics, reports Media Matters.
Rather than directly responding or challenging to Savage's mischaracterization of Hispanics, the billionaire businessman continued the interview by saying that he is "doing well" among Latino voters.
"In Nevada we just came in and we were at 34 or something like that, number one, the state of Nevada, which is very heavily Hispanic," said Trump.
According to a recent Gravis Marketing poll, Trump leads the Republican field with 33 percent of support from likely GOP primary voters in the Silver State, whose population is 27.5 Hispanic. However, despite his lead in the heavily Latino populated Nevada, national polls show that Latinos have an overwhelmingly negative view of the real estate mogul. A MSNBC/Telemundo/Marist survey revealed that 55 percent of Latinos have a "very" negative view of Trump, while 12 percent hold a "somewhat" negative opinion of the candidate.
Nonetheless, during the interview, the wealthy politican bragged about hiring countless Latino workers.
"I have thousands of people that work for me that are Hispanic," he said. "And tens of thousands over the years that have been Hispanic and from Mexico and different places and they're phenomenal people. And, you know, they frankly, you know they don't want people coming into the country illegally and taking their jobs."
At another point in his interview with Savage, Trump boasted that he is the originator of the term "anchor babies," which is a derogatory term used to describe children born to undocumented parents in the U.S.
"People come over, they have a baby, now we have to take care of the baby for the next 90 years. It's ridiculous," said Trump.
The reality TV star ended the interview by thanking Savage for his support.
"I appreciate your support, you've been so amazing and I really do, thank you very much for it," he said.
