'Fantastic Four' 2015 Reboot Movie Cast & News: Screenwriter Reveals Details About Film's "Younger Story"
There are a lot of highly-anticipated superhero movies in the works, but perhaps none is more mysterious than Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" reboot. Luckily for curious comic book-loving cats, producer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg recently shared a bit more about the film.
Fantastic Four will star Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/Thing), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), Kate Mara (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman) and Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic). Unfortunately, that was about all that had been revealed about the movie. Kinberg fixed that at this weekend's WonderCon.
"We're definitely telling a younger story than the original films did," Kinberg said according to Den of Geek. "It depends on what books you look at."
Kinberg assuaged fears that come with pretty much every superhero movie by saying that the comic books are indeed a source of inspiration.
"There are some, like the Ultimate books, that tell this story," he continued. "So it is an origin story of the Fantastic Four, and it does follow them before they really know what a superhero is. They're older than high school, but they're not quite grown into the world. If anything, this is a coming of age story."
When it came to how the team acquires their powers, however, which has typically been depicted as the group being exposed to cosmic rays while flying in space, Kinberg was more mysterious.
"There is archetypal imagery of how they get their powers, for sure, and it does involve some sort of scientific travel," he said.
"Fantastic Four" begins filming in about two weeks in Louisiana, according to Den of Geek. The film is scheduled to premiere June 19, 2015.
Earlier this month, Mara revealed that she's been kept in the dark about the movie, just like fans.
"Well, I don't know very much about it, which is weird but true," Mara told IGN. "All I know is that it's going to be a very different take on the film, which people may not expect."
"I think we're making a very grounded version of a superhero film," she told E! News. "I trust Josh Trank's vision as I was a huge fan of 'Chronicle.'"
