Season 5 of the "Parenthood" ended with an emotionally-gripping episode in which the Braverman's lost their family home and Ryan and Amber rekindled their old flame. However, one of the highlights from the season finale was the return of Haddie Braverman, who came out of the closet.

In the season finale, which was titled "The Pontiac," Haddie returned home from Cornell University with her friend Lauren who happened to be her girlfriend, marking the first time that an LGBT character was featured on the popular sitcom, reports SheWired.com.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, actress Monica Potter said she was excited that a gay character was finally feature on the show after five seasons.

"Thank God we did," said Potter who plays Haddie's mother Kristina Braverman on the show. "I'm like, 'We live in Berkeley!' Even if we didn't live in Berkeley, I'm like, 'C'mon, lets go!'"

In the episode, Haddie kept her relationship with Lauren a secret until her younger brother Max caught them kissing, and later asked his mother, "If two girls are kissing, does that mean that they're lesbians?" That's when Kristina decided to take it upon herself to confront the situtation with her daughter and show her support. Both she and her husband were really accepting of their daughter's new relationship.

"As parents, Kristina and Adam totally get it and totally support it. People were like, 'Where's the drama?' And I'm like, 'Sometimes there doesn't need to be [drama]. They have it in all the other storylines,'" said Potter.

However, Potter admitted that the show's original approach to Haddie's coming out might have rubbed fans the wrong way.

"There was a line in there, and I don't know if it was on the air, but Kristina says, 'Whatever your decision, we're going to support it,'" said Potter. "And we have some gay [people] on our crew that were offended. They were offended by that line because [being gay] is not a decision. I had to say that because it's something Kristina would say, but it was hard for me because Monica wouldn't say 'decision.'"

That line was altered to "I just want you to know how much I support you."

"Parenthood" has yet to be renewed for a sixth season, so it remains to be seen if the series continue in the fall.
