Nancy Pelosi Dismisses Michele Bachmann's Views on DOMA, Prop8 Rulings [VIDEO]
The Supreme Court overturned the Defense of Marriage Act on Wednesday, and Tea Party favorite Michele Bachmann weighed in with her usual vitriol.
"Marriage was created by the hand of God. No man, not even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted," Bachmann said. That response is typical of her fundamentalist Christian views, and she has been a staunch opponent of marriage equality and civil rights for the LGBT community.
But perhaps we're all paying to much attention to Bachmann, who declared she will not run for reelection to her House seat next year, likely an attempt to avoid a repeat of last year's election, which she won by less than 2 points after a bitter and expensive campaign.
During a press conference on the DOMA decision, a reporter asked House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi what she thought of Bachmann's response.
"Who cares?" Pelosi quipped, drawing laughter from other lawmakers.
Pelosi represents much of San Francisco, and has long been a powerful advocate for gay rights and same-sex marriage, voting against DOMA when it was initially passed back in 1996. On Wednesday, a ruling by the Supreme Court also effectively legalizes same-sex marriage in California. Pelosi's reaction to that?
"Oh happy day!"
