Demi Lovato Talks Confidence in Allure Magazine Cover
Demi Lovato shared all in the February issue of Allure magazine, where she graced the cover and opened up about all the ground she's had to cover to arrive at her current, confident self.
She discussed how she has worked to become a living, walking example of the confidence she sings about in one of her biggest hits. The "Confident" singer insisted she's never felt more self-assured, and the newfound confiction is the primary reason for the 23-year-old's new, sexier look and feel.
"I'll have people who are like 'Stop talking about it,' but this summer I started wearing sexier stuff, and I got some hate for that, like, 'You've changed,'" she said. "It's like, What's wrong with being confident enough to wear this?"
In the past, Lovato has been more than open about her struggles with her body image. Her transformation offers a prime example to fans of someone who has come to embrace and love herself just as she is.
"I've never felt as confident in my skin as I do today," she added. "A year ago, on tour, almost every inch of my body was covered by clothing, and it was because I was hiding behind so many layers. Once I started feeling better about myself, I felt better about showing more skin."
That's not to say Lovato has completely conquered all her demons. But she maintained she is no longer willing to allow fear to hold her back from being who she wants to be.
"I have insecurities about my arms, so to wear a tank top on stage is extremely liberating for me, and uncomfortable sometimes," she said. "It's also a statement, like, 'Hey, watch out. You're no longer getting the insecure Demi that you've been getting for the past couple of years. I mean business now.'"
She added that supporters like boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama are there to remind her that the sky is the limit. Over the years, Lovato has been open in talking about how Valderrama is the one that "saved" her and how the two have only grown closer.
"He never takes credit for my sobriety, but I guarantee I wouldn't be alive without him today," she said.
