Macaulay Culkin 2014 Death Hoax: 'Home Alone' Actor Becomes Victim To Facebook Hoax In Fake Post
FYI folks, Macaulay Culkin is not dead.
The 33 year-old actor/Pizza Underground singer has ended up in the long list of celebrities who have fallen victim to the infamous celebrity death hoax. Celebrities that were falsely reported as dead include Britney Spears, Kanye West, Eminem, Will Smith, and Morgan Freeman... just to name a few.
On Sunday an unidentified source posted on Facebook that the "Home Alone" actor had died.
"At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (April 20, 2014), our beloved actor Macaulay Culkin passed away. Macaulay Culkin was born on August 26, 1980 in New York. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page," read the fake Facebook post.
The hoax caught so much attention that a representative from Culkin's camp released a statement confirming that Culkin is indeed still alive.
Perhaps Culkin's "fake death" seemed believable to fans because of his very publicized drug addiction in the past.
The Inquistr reports that in 2012 news emerged that the actor was in a downward spiral of drug abuse, with friends saying they thought he could die within months.
The National Enquirer was among the sources claiming Culkin's crippling drug abuse.
"He's been hooked for a year and a half, and his drug of choice is either heroin or oxycodone," the Enquirer quotes a source as saying, "Mac is surrounding himself with junkies and lowlifes. It's a real tragedy."
The source continued, "He's addicted to heroin, oxycodone, Percocet and Vicodin ... I have witnessed his drug taking, which has escalated over the past year and a half to the point where he needs serious help."
Despite his troubling past, Culkin is doing much better and has turned to music. He is currently the vocalist in a pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute band called Pizza Underground. The band performed in Boston last Saturday.
Let's hope this is the last we hear about this cruel celebrity joke.
