The Mexico Supreme Court recently sustained the sentence passed by the lower court against Bruce Beresford-Redman in March 2015. State prosecutors in Quintana Roo shared the news on Jan. 18, 2016.

CBS News revealed that Jaime Cancino Leon, Beresford-Redman’s attorney in Mexico, confirmed the denial of his appeal. The lawyer said that there were plenty of irregularities during the trial and there was no evidence to support the verdict. Leon added that they plan to file another appeal to the Mexico Supreme Court.

Contact Music said that the reality TV producer was sentenced to imprisonment for 12 years for the murder of his Brazil-born wife, Monica Burgos, in 2010.

In 2012, Beresford-Redman was extradited from the United States to Mexico to be prosecuted for allegedly killing his wife during a vacation in Cancun. Burgos' body was found in a sewer cistern close to the hotel where the spouses were staying one day after the “Survivor” producer reported that she was missing.

Beresford-Redman was found guilty after the trial on March 5, 2015 and was sentenced to 12 years in jail and a fine of $2,780. His lawyer filed an appeal on Jan. 18, 2016, which was subsequently dismissed by the Mexican court.

The couple were married in April 1999. They have two children together who currently live with Beresford-Redman's parents.

Daily Mail stated that the couple and their children were staying at the luxurious Moon Palace resort in Cancun, Mexico in 2010 when the murder happened. The trip was supposed to help the duo repair their troubled marriage after Burgos learned that Beresford-Redman cheated on her.

The family of Beresford-Redman stated on Facebook that they are “appalled and disgusted with the gross miscarriage of justice.” They said that the trial lasted for several years and only proved his innocence beyond any doubt.

“Whatever lies behind this ruling it is based on neither facts nor evidence. This is a disservice to Monica’s memory; this is not the justice she and Bruce still deserve and that we continue to demand,” the family said.

They continued that they will immediately appeal the decision and will not stop until Beresford-Redman is exonerated and returns home. The family also stated that the decision should lead to a reconsideration of the United States and Mexico extradition treaty, considering how the latter cannot satisfy minimal standards of justice.

As for Burgos' family, they shared that they were satisfied with the court’s finding.
