MetroPCS Slashes Prices, Targets Sprint Customers
Wireless customers will be happy to know all the carriers are finding new ways to lower their prices. MetroPCS now has a deal they are calling "The Biggest Offer in Sprint's History," and are trying to convince Sprint customers to switch.
MetroPCS' plan is a direct shot at Sprint's "Biggest Deal in US Wireless History" promotion that was run during the holidays, CNet reports.
MetroPCS is owned by T-Mobile and is a prepaid service. Their new promotion promises low prices and even free budget phones. The plan goes into effect Thursday.
MetroPCS's New Strategy
MetroPCS would normally go after another prepaid service's customers, but this is a different strategy for them. MetroPCS wants to convince Sprint customers to switch over to their service because they will get cheaper rates.
"We're trying to get people to think differently about MetroPCS," said Kevin McLaughlin, senior vice president of marketing at Bellevue, Washington-based T-Mobile, in an interview Tuesday.
Big Savings
MetroPCS is offering rates as low as $30 per month for 1 GB of data. For customers that need unlimited data, the plans are just $60. MetroPCS says the savings for an individual line are between 22 and 48 percent.
For two-line packages, customers save even more money. MetroPCS says that customers will save up to 50 percent if they sign up for a two-line plan with them that ranges from $50 to $110 per month.
Free Phones
MetroPCS is also rewarding Sprint customers who switch with a free phone. Customers will be given either the LG Leon LTE, the Samsung Core Prime, the Kyocera Hydro Wave or the LG K7 phone for switching.
MetroPCS is focusing on Sprint customers because most of the company's new customers that switch their numbers over from another carrier come from Sprint, McLaughlin said.
MetroPCS says Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile customers are also eligible for this deal. Both of those companies are owned by Sprint.
