New England Patriots reserve linebacker played last Saturday with 22 stitches in his right leg against the Kansas City Chiefs, something he claims he sustained while trying to rescue a woman from a smoking car.

The fourth-year player’s story eventually drew a crowd as many wanted to know the details of his story.

In the end, he was commended and praised for his heroic deed. However, when USA Today looked into the incident with several police departments and tow service companies, none had any record of an alleged incident matching Fleming’s narration.

TMZ Sports, however, reports that the Walpole Police Department confirms that there was indeed a car accident at Route 1 matching the claims of Fleming.

According to that report, there was indeed a three-car crash that occurred at 4:18 p.m., and that one of the cars did have a smashed window.

Flemming claims that he resorted to kicking the window of one of the cars in an effort to help out a woman who was jumping around in the car as smoke was building from inside the vehicle.

"I tried to open the doors and it wouldn't work. So then I was just like, 'I have to get her out of here. I don't know if this lady can breathe or what," says Flemming.

“I started banging on the window. It wouldn't break. So then I started to kick in the window and eventually it broke," he adds via ESPN.

The alleged woman who was trapped in that vehicle shed more light on what happened.

According to the woman who preferred to stay anonymous, her vehicle lost power and that she could not get out of her car. It was then when a male (who she believed to be a ‘Patriot’) signalled her to move to the passenger side because he was going to try and kick the window.

It took three kicks from Fleming to break the window. After pulling out the woman to safety, Fleming returned to the stadium to be bandaged up before heading to a hospital for X-rays and stitches.

With Fleming stitched up, he was under the impression that he would not be playing against the Chiefs. However, with injuries to linebackers Jamie Collins and Jerod Mayo, he was called in to play, where he had two tackles.

"The first thing that came to mind was, 'Damn, my leg is cut up pretty bad,' so I wasn't sure how that would affect me, how it would affect my game," says Fleming.
