Nokia Might Build its First Phone in Years
Nokia might be preparing to release its first smartphone in years. Nokia has been out of the smartphone game for quite a while, but according to rumors they are ready to get back into the market with a new device.
Nokia sold its Lumia brand of smartphones to Microsoft and had to agree to a non-compete clause, but that window is now over and Nokia is free to make smartphones again, Tech Radar reports.
A leak on the Chinese social media website Weibo shows a picture of a clunky all-metal handset. However, this phone might not be something that smartphone fans will get too excited about.
Ugly Phone
The leaks of the possible Nokia phone reveal a device that looks similar to the HTC One A9 from the back. The HTC One A9 is a respectable phone that borrowed most of its stylings from the iPhone 6s.
Looking further at the leaked pictures, the Nokia phone has chunky rectangular sides that make it look anything but compact. The phone from the side looks rather ugly actually.
The phone is trying to use premium materials like the all-metal design, but then are pairing it with an ugly square design.
Cheap and Low-Powered
The good thing about the phone is that Nokia looks like they will not command a premium price tag for it. The phone is only expected to cost 500 yuan at the most (or about $75).
Nokia plans to build an Android-based phone instead of the Windows Phones they have built in the past.
With such a low price, customers should expect a low-powered processor, a low-resolution screen and a rather small amount of internal storage space.
The next Nokia phone will likely use a low powered Qualcomm Snapdragon processor in the 600 series. The phone might have just a 720p resolution screen and it might be limited to just 8 GB of internal storage.
If Nokia is ready to release this phone, more information will come soon from the Finnish company.
