Vanessa Hudgens wouldn't have agreed to be there at the "High School Musical Reunion" taping if Zac Efron decided to come too. According to recent reports, Hudgens had no interest to see her ex again years after their breakup in 2010.

A source told Hollywood Life that Hudgens had to make sure first that Efron wouldn't be there before she committed to the reunion. The exes reportedly had a bad breakup and seeing each other again after years of no communication would just be awkward.

"Vanessa and Zac are on bad terms and they don't want to see each other. Things would be awkward and there would be a lot of issues that would come up and they wouldn't feel comfortable faking it in front of cameras," the source said.

The insider added that the former couple, who met on the set of the "High School Musical," had a "horrible" breakup, so horrible that Hudgens doesn't even want to hear Efron's name mentioned. Thus, being in the same room with him would just reportedly be awkward.

"To say she was relieved he wasn't there is an understatement. She probably wouldn't have done it had he confirmed showing up for it," the source further told Hollywood Life.

Among the main casts of "High School Musical," Efron was the only one missing. Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel were able to attend.

While Hudgens was reportedly relieved that Efron couldn't be there, his fans, however, were not pleased. His absence from the reunion received several devastated comments from loyal fans of the original Disney movie.

Another Twitter even suspected that Efron didn't go to the "High School Musical Reunion" because of Hudgens. The fan said he could have been afraid to see his ex-girlfriend.

However, a representative of Disney Channel told Billboard that Efron's absence was not because of Hudgens. Instead, the "Neighbors" star made prior commitments that conflicted with the taping of the "High School Musical Reunion." The reunion taping reportedly conflicted with the promotional release of his new film "Dirty Grandpa," which opens in U.S. theatres on Jan. 22.

Efron may not be there physically while his co-stars reminisced on their memorable moments from the movie series, but he had pre-recorded his video message for his fans. The video was played when the "High School Musical Reunion" aired on the Disney Channel on Wednesday.
