Star Wars Episode 7 Movie News, Rumors, and Update: Disney Chairman Reports That New Lucasfilm Project Will Likely Cost $200 Million To Make
As "Star Wars" fans eagerly await updated news on the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 7" film, they will probably be excited to learn that the new "Star Wars" film will be the "Star Wars" franchise's biggest and most expensive yet.
"We need to give the audience ... essentially a full meal in return for their affection for and devotion to this property," Disney chairman Alan Horn told Variety on Tuesday.
Horn revealed that, though there is no confirmed final budget for the Disney film, it will most likely cost at least $175 million and probably go up to $200 million.
"Star Wars Episode VII," which is scheduled to premiere in December of next year, has already begun shooting in the Middle East.
"We have to give that the 'Star Wars'-ian look, if I can use that as an adjective -- we need to go to these places, said Horn.
Altough scenes are already being filmed, Horn revealed that casting is not yet complete and Horn plans to sit down with the film's director, J.J. Abrams to discuss further production design and changes to be made to the screenplay.
While fans wait for news on official casting, Variety revealed some names that have been in the running to star in the movie. Among them include "Girls" actor Adam Driver to play the villain, while actors being considered for the lead role include Ed Speleers, John Boyega, Jesse Plemons, Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.
As production for the new "Star Wars" film is already underway, Disney disclosed its plans to release the next two "Star Wars" films in 2017 and 2019, but it has not been determined if those films will also have December dates. There have also been talks of releasing two "Star Wars" spinoff movies, in 2016 and 2018.
