WWE Raw Spoilers, Preview for Jan 25, 2016: Royal Rumble Results: New Champions Crowned; AJ Styles Debuts
The WWE has a new World Heavyweight Champion and saw the main roster returns of notably figures during Sunday night's "Royal Rumble."
During the main 30-man Royal Rumble match, Roman Reigns lost the title after Triple H, who came in at No. 30, threw him over the top rope. Reigns lasted through most of the match despite coming in at No. 1. Reigns did encounter a huge official WWE debut with AJ Styles entering No. 3. Styles, who previously wrestled a WWE match for one of its lower-tiered programming nearly or more than a decade ago, performed well until he was eliminated by Kevin Owens.
Owens' night was a rough one. Earlier in the night, he lost the Last Man Standing match against Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose. Owens would still compete in the Royal Rumble match, eliminating Styles and confronting his NXT rival Sami Zayn, who made his main roster return after e had sustained a shoulder injury. Zayn would eliminate Owens, and hopefully it'll refuel their feud on the main roster.
Brock Lesnar also was eliminated after an assault by The Wyatt Family. The League of Nations also assaulted Reigns, but weren't able to eliminate him over the top rope.
In the end, the last three men in the ring were Reigns, Triple H and Ambrose. Triple H eliminated Reigns, which guaranteed WWE fans that there will be a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion by the end of the show. Ambrose put a valiant effort but Triple H managed to eliminate him to secure his 14th world title reign.
At "Raw," which comes live in Miami, fans will expect Vince and Stephanie McMahon to celebrate both Reigns' loss and Triple H becoming the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Another new champion was named at the "Royal Rumble" as Kalisto defeated Alberto Del Rio to become two-time United States Champion.
WWE Divas Champion Charlotte retained her title against Becky Lynch as Ric Flair once again interfered. Fans at the "Royal Rumble," however, gave one of the loudest pops of the night as Sasha Banks returned and made her intention known that she wants the Divas Championship. For "Raw," viewers will expect further developments on whether Charlotte will feud only Sasha or if there would be a triple-threat match with Becky at the next pay per view, "Fastlane."
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day retained their tag titles by defeating The Usos.
With the road to "WrestleMania" officially on, fans will see further hints on potential matches at the April 3 show, which could include Bray Wyatt vs. Lesnar, Triple H vs. Reigns and Owens vs. either or both Zayn and Styles.
"Monday Night Raw" airs weekly on the USA Network at 8 p.m. EST.
