With the widespread success of GTA V, rumors are circulating that the successor to Rockstar Games' runaway hit is already in the works. What is interesting is the if speculations are to be believed, the upcoming game would not be released for the present generation's flagship consoles, according to The Inquistr.

Rather, reports have suggested that the highly-anticipated follow-up to Rockstar's iconic game would be released for Sony and Microsoft's next-generation consoles, the rumored Playstation 5 and the Xbox Two.

With the target date for the release of GTA 6 not being announced as of yet, however, Rockstar Games has remained silent about the rumors. After all, Rockstar Games might be avoiding the same fiasco it found itself in the past, when it set a release date that it was not able to meet.

The next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft have been rumored for a while now, with speculations peaking last year, when Sony posted a job opening for a senior game developer.

According to the job opening, as reported by Mobipicker, the Japanese tech giant was seeking a senior game developer who could help create a game that would be used for the research and development of its next generation gaming system.

Though the job posting was quickly taken down, most probably because the position was quickly filled by Sony, it did, however, provide the first concrete sign that the Playstation 5 is indeed already in the works.

Meanwhile, Robbie Bach, who served as Xbox chief officer, has also suggested that the successor to the Xbox One is already in development as well. Bach, however, stated that the next iteration of Microsoft's popular gaming device would be unlike the previous models, stated Neurogadget.

Phil Spencer, who works in Microsoft's Xbox project, agrees with Bach, confirming that a new console is currently being developed by Microsoft.

"Expect that you'll see another console from us. Our best customers are Xbox console customers, and I want to keep those people engaged both on the Xbox One and anything we might do in the future," Spencer said.

A number of speculations have already emerged about the two, new, upcoming gaming systems, some of which is the assumption that both systems would be discless and that they would be capable of rendering virtual-reality games.

With Sony set to announce the release of its VR system in the near future, and with the ongoing assumption that Rockstar Games' next entry is for the PS5 and the Xbox Two, fans of the iconic franchise would most likely enjoy an experience in GTA 6 the likes of something they never had before.
