MLB The Show 14 PS4 & PS3 Release Date & Gameplay: New Pitch Count Option Introduced; Franchise Mode Changed
Plenty of changes have been introduced in this year's version of "MLB The Show" and the early reviews are indicating that some specific adjustments could revolutionize the way we play the popular baseball game.
One of the key changes to this year's version of the game has to do with gameplay. Gamers can now opt to play games with a shortened pitch count, thus eliminating the extra time it takes to go through the long at-bats that end up making the games last longer than a basketball or football game would. The changes are reminiscent of the shorter quarters or halves in other sports video games and this has historically paved the way for gamers to become more interested in franchises due to the fact that it won't take forever to complete a season or even multiple seasons.
To capitalize on this, "MLB The Show" added more changes to franchise mode and now more than two dozen people can participate in one franchise.
"Franchises can now be played in a fully customizable format with friends and strangers," Greg Mason said in a game review for The Auburn Citizen. "Twenty-nine other players can participate in an online franchise, and the terms of the season -- such as length -- can be changed to the players' liking."
There is a chance that some gamers will be unhappy with the new optional pitch count mode because an easier option could be to just play games with fewer innings. Of course, the downside to this is that games might not be as realistic due to the fact that it would eliminate the need for bullpens. In a 7-inning game, a starting pitcher could go 6 innings before handing off the seventh inning to the closer.
The PS4 version of "MLB The Show" will be released on May 6.
