EPL Week 23 Scores, Table & Standings: Leicester City, Manchester City Overtake Arsenal in Race for No. 1
Leicester City reclaimed the top spot in the 2015-16 English Premier League season, while Manchester City also moved up after Week 23 of competition.
Leicester City are now back to the top of the English Premier League table after scoring a masterful 3-0 victory against Stoke on Saturday at King Power Stadium.
Daniel Drinkwater netted the first Premier League goal of his career in the 42nd minute of the match via a right-footed shot after a corner, opening the scoring parade for the Foxes.
Drinkwater also made an impact in the second half, as his through ball led to a difficult goal for star striker Jamie Vardy in the 66th minute before Leonardo Ulloa sealed the victory with another goal in the 87th minute.
Leicester City, the most surprising team this season, now has 47 points from 13 wins, eight draws and just two defeats. Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri is still not ready to name his team as a strong contender for the title, saying that February will be a critical month for the club.
"Our fans are dreaming and I want them to continue to dream," Ranieri told reporters. "I don't know if we are a contender at this moment. February is a big month and after that month I can say something more realistic."
Meanwhile, Manchester City moved to second spot after forcing a 2-2 draw with West Ham on Saturday at Boleyn Ground.
Enner Valencia delighted the home crowd with an early goal 53 seconds into the match, but Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero scored the equalizer off a penalty in the ninth minute. Valencia then gave West Ham a 2-1 lead but they failed to protect the advantage, allowing Aguero to tie the game anew in the 81st minute.
Manchester City have racked up 44 points in 23 matches. Last week's No. 1 Arsenal also have 44 points but Manchester City hold a better goal difference. Arsenal took a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday.
