Does women's tennis have a new hero? Sabine Lisicki downed Serena Williams after three sets on Monday, and the heartthrob from Germany will now advance to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old Lisicki has been a hot name in the tennis world, as much for her looks as her increasingly skilled play as of late. She came into the match ranked 24th, and surprised everybody by handing the top seed Serena Williams a stunning loss.

"It was an amazing feeling to win this match," said Lisicki, still wiping away tears from her emotional victory. "I love this court so much. It's a special place for me. It's unbelievable."

Williams went down in the match early, losing the first set 6-2. From that point she was able to rally and easily win the second set 6-1, but was unable to seal the deal and was eventually defeated by Lisicki by a score of 6-4 in the final set.

"I probably couldn't be more disappointed," Williams said. "I think I may have backed off of a success. I was playing something successful. I didn't continue that path. The result didn't go the way it could have gone had I continued to play the way I did in the second set."

It does appear that Williams backed off down the stretch. She had gone up 4-2 in the final set before giving up the last four games to a surging Lisicki. Surprisingly, Williams attributes much of her loss to a plain lack of effort and willpower.

"I felt that I was on the verge of winning," she said. "At that point I just was physically unable to hold serve. ... You have to be ready and willing to hold your serve. I wasn't willing or able, probably didn't even want to hold my serve today."

Williams has also made headlines lately after many had said she appeared unbeatable, winning a record 34 matches in a row. There were even rumors that she would partake in a match against men's tennis player Andy Murray. Now, Serena will watch from the sidelines as Lisicki goes on to face Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.
