A high school student was reportedly stabbed by a classmate at a high school in Manvel, Texas, near Houston on Friday afternoon.

The Alvin Independent School District alerted the student body's parents of the stabbing shortly after it occurred at around 11.15 a.m. at Manvel High School on the 19,000 block of Highway 6, according to numerous news reports.

The freshman student attacked the senior with a knife and stabbed him twice inside the hallway outside of the school's cafeteria. The incident occurred after the two male students were released between classes to go to lunch, according to an Alvin ISD statement.

Alvin ISD police detained the student and taken into their custody.

Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene to treat the wounded student who reportedly suffered minor injuries, ABC News' local Houston affiliate KTRX-TV reported.

The student's parents were notified of the incident and arrived on the scene to transport their child to get additional medical treatment, according to KTRX-TV.

"There is no reason to believe a safety concern exists," Daniel Combs, the school's director of communications wrote in the statement. "Please be assured we will keep the parents of our students informed should additional information become available. The safety of all students will remain the top priority of Alvin ISD."

According to the statement, Manvel High School had a 10-minute lockdown earlier Friday morning, but that was unrelated to the stabbing that took place between the two students, Fox News' Houston affiliate reported.

The school officially opened on Aug. 9, 2006 with an attendance of 634 students. On June 6, 2009, 260 students graduated, representing the school's first graduating class, according to MHS.
