Puerto Rican music superstar Ricky Martin will be receiving a star on the Walk of Fame in Puerto Rico on Feb. 3.

According to People en Español, the 44-year-old singer is the latest Puerto Rican entertainer to be given the honor.

"We continue paying homage to those figures that have given name to our land," said Santiago Villar, chairman of the board of the Walk of Fame of Puerto Rico, Inc. "We are really pleased that Ricky Martin can give continuity to this project which, I believe, can continue until we fulfill our objective of the first phase, which consists of the unveiling of 40 stars."

The singer, one of the artists credited with popularizing Latin pop in the U.S., began his career as a member of the boy band Menudo in the 1980s. He has sold over 70 million albums internationally.

Martin is known not only for his music, but also for proudly promoting his heritage and fellow Puerto Ricans in his work and on social media.

On Jan. 13, he showed support for Puerto Rican actor and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda on Twitter. Martin attended a performance of Miranda's musical "Hamilton" and expressed pride afterward.

On Jan. 26, the singer asked fans to support and follow model Joan Smalls on Instagram, calling the model a "Puerto Rican beauty" and claiming that "Puerto Rican's do it better" in his hashtags.

Martin will join only four other Puerto Ricans to receive their own stars, all of whom were honored at the inaugural ceremony in San Juan on Dec. 21, 2015. Along with composer José Ferrer, who was honored posthumously, honorees included musician Chayanne, and actresses Míriam Colón and Roselyn Sánchez, who shared photos from the ceremony on her Instagram account.
