Andy Murray vs Milos Raonic: Australian Open 2016 Semifinals Preview, Where to Watch and Live Stream
Andy Murray of Great Britain and Milos Raonic of Canada will collide in the semifinals of the 2016 Australian Open on Friday at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Road to Semis
Murray, the second-seeded player in this year's tournament, booked a spot in the semis with a four-setter win against eighth-seeded David Ferrer of Spain in the quarterfinals. The 28-year-old also defeated Alexander Zverev, Sam Groth, Joao Sousa and Bernard Tomic en route to the finals.
Raonic, the 13th-seeded player in the 2016 Australian Open, scored big wins earlier in the tournament to book a date with Murray. The 25-year-old pulled off a huge upset against former Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka in the fourth round, which was followed by a hard-earned victory against 23rd seed Gael Monfils in the quarterfinals.
Head-to-Head Matchup
Murray and Raonic has faced each other six times before, with each player scoring three wins apiece, Steve G Tennis indicated. In their last two meetings Murray won in straight sets in the 2015 Madrid Masters and 2014 ATP World Tour Finals.
While he is behind Murray in their head-to-head matchup, Raonic likes his chances against two-time Grand Slam champion, who has reached the Australian Open final four times but has never lifted the prestigious trophy.
"From where we were 14 months ago, we're both very different and I think improved players from then," Raonic said of Murray. "So I have certain aspects that I would like to manipulate and use my game in, and I'm sure he's going to try to do a lot of different things, too. I think it's going to be a race to who can get in the comfort zone."
Murray is a heavy favorite heading into their matchup on Thursday, but he knows he has no room for complacency, knowing that Raonic has been playing well as of late after recovering from injury.
"He was unfortunate last year with some injuries. Had a few physical issues. I played him in Madrid and he was struggling a little bit there," Murray said of Raonic. "Then I think he had the surgery on his foot and missed the French and maybe Wimbledon as well. He's obviously fit and healthy now and playing well."
