NFL Pro Bowl Rosters Complete After Being Drafted by Irvin and Rice
The NFL Pro Bowl rosters for this Sunday's game are complete, and the contest between Team Irvin and Team Rice is shaping up to be a high-scoring affair.
Rice Urged to Pick Eli Manning
Michael Irvin, the former Dallas Cowboys receiver and member of the Hall of Fame, is the team captain for Team Irvin and had the first overall pick. Irvin used the first overall pick to select Seattle Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson.
Jerry Rice, another Hall of Fame receiver, is the team captain for Team Rice and used his first pick to select New York Giants' quarterback Eli Manning. Rice was urged to pick Manning by player-captain Odell Beckham Jr. because Manning jokingly told Beckham that if he was not selected early in the draft, Manning would throw zero passes to him next season, CBS Sports reported.
Wilson Wanted More Seahawks
Wilson hoped Irvin would draft more Seahawks to join his team. Irvin selected defensive end ichael Bennett (No. 9 pick) and Richard ShermanM (No. 5 pick).
Irvin also insisted on drafting all of the Dallas Cowboy players available, just like he did last year.
Irvin's team is highlighted by star wide receiver Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons and running back Todd Gurley from the St. Louis Rams.
Team Rice Picks NFL Leading Rusher
Rice's team has Manning and Oakland Raiders' Derek Carr to back him up at quarterback. The team also features the NFL's leading rusher in 2015, Adrian Peterson.
The final player selected in the draft was safety Charles Woodson from the Raiders. Woodson made it public that he is retiring after the 2015-2016 season.
The first portion of the draft started on Tuesday with Irvin and Rice selecting players in an untelevised draft. Tuesday's draft was mostly linemen.
On Wednesday, the Pro Bowl Roster Draft was televised on ESPN2 with position players being drafted.
This year, many NFL players declined their invitations to the Pro Bowl because of injuries.
The Kansas City Chiefs' Andy Reid will coach Team Rice. The Green Bay Packers' assistant coach Winston Moss will coach Team Irvin. The Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy has an illness and was told by doctors not to travel.
The Pro Bowl begins at 7 p.m. ET Sunday and will be aired on ESPN. The game will be played at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.
