MLB Rumors: New York Yankees Still Looking for Starter, Kansas City Royals Wants Another Outfielder
It's less than a month away before players report to Spring Training and get ready for the 2016 MLB season so teams are stacking up their roster. Latest rumors suggested that the New York Yankees are still looking for an additional starting pitcher, while the Kansas City Royals are eyeing another outfielder, per Chat Sports.
New York Yankees Looking for Another Starter?
Even though the Yankees roster is already full, the coaching staff is planning to start the season with a six-man rotation as reported by MLB.com. New York's rotation already has enough starters with Luis Cessa, Nathan Eovaldi, Bryan Mitchell, Ivan Nova, Michael Pineda, C.C. Sabathia, Luis Severino and Masahiro Tanaka all vying for spots.
However, the pitching staff is wary that the team will need to have six healthy starters due to the injuries suffered by their starters last season. The team has been quiet in terms of giving money to free agents this offseason, but Chad Jennings of the LoHud Yankees Blog suggested veterans Cliff Lee and Tim Lincecum as possible signings.
He added that the Yankees may look to sign Yovani Gallardo, but with the way general manager Brian Cashman has been doing this offseason makes it very unlikely. Chat Sports noted that Gallardo is also being courted by the Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies.
Kansas City Royals Adding Outfielder
According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the defending World Series champions are looking for an additional outfielder. He added that Los Angeles Angels outfielder David Murphy could be a good fit, but looks too expensive for the Royals, who have spent quite enough money this offseason.
Tim Boyle of Innings Eater mentioned several alternatives for Kansas City, including Murphy's teammate Matt Joyce and free agent veterans David DeJesus, Jeff Francouer and Shane Victorino. Francouer and Victorino have the leadership that the Royals would want to be able to try and repeat as champions.
The Royals were also linked to Colorado's Corey Dickerson before he got traded to the Tampa Bay Rays late last week. Kansas could have traded one of their bullpen arms for Dickerson, as he is an outfielder that will be under team control until 2020.
Kansas City has a hole to fill in their right field with the current plans to have Jarrod Dyson and Paulo Orlando platoon the position. The team could also observe young prospects Brent Eibner and Jorge Bonifacio this Spring Training and see if their development can earn them a place in the Opening Day roster, per a KC Kingdom report.
