Latin Rock Band Maná to Get Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Popular Latin rock band Maná is about to be immortalized on concrete when they receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
According to a press release from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which orchestrates the star ceremonies, the group will be honored with their own star on Feb. 10.
Carlos Santana has been confirmed as one musician set to attend the ceremony to salute the rock band, which is made up of members Fher Olvera, Alex González, Sergio Vallín and Juan Calleros.
The producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Ana Martinez, discussed the reasoning behind choosing the group to receive the 2,573rd star.
“As one of Latin America’s most popular Rock bands, Maná is sure to bring many fans to Hollywood for the dedication ceremony," she said. "They are not only well known throughout Latin America, here in the United States and across the world as well!”
According to Billboard, the band will also be performing on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" that very same day to celebrate the career highlight.
Formed in 1986, the rock band has sold over 40 million albums and won over 50 awards, including four Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammy Awards and 14 Billboard Latin Music Awards. The group may add to that list of awards this year with the recent announcement that they are up for seven 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, including Latin Pop Song of the Year for their duet with Shakira "Mi Verdad," Latin Pop Album of the Year and Top Latin Album of the Year.
On their last tour, Maná broke a record that no other band has been able to come close to. After filling the Los Angeles Staples Center for seven nights straight, the band earned the accolade for the most sold-out shows by a band in the popular venue.
The group will be joining other Latin artists like Santana, Celia Cruz, Juan Gabriel, Emilio and Gloria Estefan, Luis Miguel and Tito Puente, to name a few, who have received the honor.
