Orlando Rapper Dewarren 'Fella' Lewis Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison
A local rapper from Orlando was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Friday after being convicted of two bank robberies.
A jury found Dewarren "Fella" Lewis guilty of robbing two Orlando banks at gunpoint last year. He was charged on two counts of bank robbery with assault and two counts of using and carrying a firearm during criminal activity, reports the Orlando Sentinel.
According to prosecutors, the 28-year-old artist robbed a Wells Fargo bank on Jan. 9, 2013, and a Regions Bank on March 20, 2013. Each time Lewis was wearing a stocking over his face and used a gun to demand the employees to give him cash. During the first robbery, he stole over $9,000. However, he got caught with $23,000 after he robbed the Regions bank and lead police on a high-speed chase on Via Dellagio Way to a MetroWest apartment complex.
According to testimony and evidence presented during his trial, witnesses spotted Lewis and notified officials after he left Regions, removed his disguise and drove away. Lewis then led police on a chase through the streets of Orlando before getting out of his car and attempting to run away from police on foot.
Once Orange County deputies caught him, he was still holding a bag filled with over $23,000 stolen from the Regions Bank, reports My News 13.
He was also ordered to serve three years of probation after he is released from prison and to forfeit a Jimenez Arms .380 pistol and six rounds of ammunition, which were used in the robberies.
