Chris Christie Hits Marco Rubio on Abortion Stance
Being "pro-life" is something that Republicans can agree on, but for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, there is such thing as being too much pro-life.
According to Christie, Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio is too pro-life, even for him, who was known to veto taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood abortion businesses on the state of New Jersey multiple times.
Christie said, "I will tell you one thing Marco Rubio has done, he has made it very clear that on the issue of pro-life, Marco Rubio is not for an exception for ... rape, incest or life of the mother."
The governor added that this is an issue that New Hampshire voters should be concerned about and clarified that despite being pro-life himself, he still believes that there are exceptions to the rule like rape, incest or when the life of the mother is on the line. For added measure, Christie even cited popular Republican president Ronald Reagan.
According to Life News, Rubio said that he is for protecting the life of unborn babies that was conceived in rape and incest, during a Republican debate last year.
The Florida senator thinks the act of abortion is barbaric and said that future Americans will look in disgust when they look back on why abortion was legalized in the first place.
On the contrary, the New York Times said that Christie may have misinterpreted Rubio's stance on abortion. According to the report, it is true that in most cases, Rubio opposes abortion, but he also have some exceptions such as when a mother's life is in danger.
During an interview in Iowa last week, Rubio said that he thinks there should be an exception to abortion cases, especially when the life of the mother is at stake.
But Rubio did not tackle the issues of rape and incest and just said that "I want to see abortions in America reduced." For the young senator, he believes that every human being is entitled to a good life, no matter how he or she is conceived.
Christie has become increasingly critical of Rubio over the past months, as he intends to be the alternative to leading candidates Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.
He lashed out on Rubio's experience and said that the young Texas senator has yet to prove his legislative skills and even said that he cannot get things done except wake up and fix his hair.
Christie said, "I don't understand how that's a qualification for president of the United States."
