‘Doom’ Release Date Revealed in Violent Trailer; Bethesda Unveils Plans for Collector’s Edition, Pre-Order Bonuses and More
The horror genre is about to get a reawakening with the release of Bethesda's campaign trailer for its rebooted game "Doom". Featuring nonstop action, blood and gore in the trailer, this upcoming offering from the best-selling company is setting itself up for success ahead of its release in May.
According to a report from Mirror UK, the publisher Bethesda unveiled the first look at the rebooted game that was originally released back in 1993. The original game was known for extreme violence and satanic imagery with the story revolving around a space marine who finds himself descending into hell.
In the new iteration of "Doom", the first-person shooter seems to be bloodier and more violent than ever. The publisher introduced the trailer with a vivid description of "Doom" saying, "Relentless demons, impossibly destructive guns, and fast, fluid movement provide the foundation for intense, first-person combat."
While the official release isn't until May, Bethesda revealed that the players will be able to test the game in a beta release ahead of the launch, according to a report from Game Spot. Details and schedule will drop in the future, but at least gamers won't have to wait until May to get a taste of the enticing shooter.
Another feature that is set to hype up the fans of the game is the development of a "Doom Collector's Edition". This particular version of the game will include a 12" figure of the terrifying demon the Reverant on a LED-lit base and a copy of "Doom" in a special metal case. The Collector's Edition will cost $120.
Bethesda also revealed special bonuses for players who pre-order the game. Pre-orders will give players the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which features a demon armor set with three skin variations, six paint colors and three id Software patterns that can be used on the armor and weapons. The pack also includes six "Hack Modules" consumable items for gaining an edge in the game.
During the E3 2015, Bethesda's Pete Hines spilled on the upcoming "Doom" in an interview with Polygon, explaining why the team decided to scrap original plans for the reboot.
"We decided that it wasn't Doom enough and needed to be thrown out and started over," Hines said. "Some folks left and some faces changed at the studio. Out of that change - which was not easy for those guys to go through - some amazing things happened."
Bethesda's "Doom" for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC is slated for release on May 13.
