NBA Trade Rumors: Blake Griffin Headed to the Denver Nuggets?
Blake Griffin continues to sit out for the Los Angeles Clippers, a result of his recent fracas that resulted in him ending up with a broken hand.
That off-court incident is far from over, which is something the Clippers don’t need right now. The Clips were already suffering with Griffin taken out due to a prior quadriceps injury and would have been playing now if not for that Jan. 23 incident in Toronto, as per TMZ.
The Clippers forward ended up requiring surgery for his hand, keeping him out for a longer 4 to 6 weeks. Also, the time-off could be longer with sanctions expected to be thrown the slam-dunking forward’s way with the NBA and the Clippers management likely issuing disciplinary sanctions of their own.
With that said, the most likely scenario is to see Griffin back on the court with about one-fourth of the season remaining. Now, the odds seem to be stacking up all the more for the Clippers, which is one reason why Blake Griffin trade rumors have been surfacing as of late.
Though it may be hard to understand why the Clippers would give up a star-caliber forward at this point, it could make sense if the Clips get someone of equal or greater value. If the Clippers bite, the reason is obviously to help restore order from within.
There are names that come into mind, no matter how crazy it may be to consider a blockbuster trade involving Blake Griffin. Kevin Love was among them. However, everyone knows that the Cavs are unlikely to part with Love for Griffin.
One team that approached the Clippers were the Denver Nuggets. Dan Woike of the Orange County Register confirmed that the Nuggets did reach out. However, the Clippers were not interested in a trade for the All-Star forward.
Aside from the Nuggets, it wouldn’t be surprising if other teams would be also inquiring about Griffin. The Philadelphia 76ers were another team inquiring about the All-Star forward; though they were all about discussions.
The Sixers could have something interesting to offer. They do have a surplus of big men in Nerlens Noel, Joel Embiid and rookie Jahlil Okafor -- a trade could make sense. Seeing, however, that Griffin’s contract is hefty ($18 million via HoopsHype.com), the deal may require multiple players in exchange or perhaps a conduit team.
The Boston Celtics were another team but nothing really prospered as well. But, as said, the Clippers aren’t biting just yet on anything.
Of course, anything can still happen until the Feb. 18 NBA tradeline lapses. For the next two weeks, expect trade rumors to swirl with Griffin’s name likely to be in the mix.
