Latino Food Dominates World's Best Restaurants List: Foodies Rank Spots in Spain, Brazil and Peru Highly
On Monday, Restaurant Magazine released its 2014 World's 50 Best Restaurants list, and it's no surprise that there is plenty of delicioso Latino chow on the exclusive list.
Restaurant Magazine's list is sponsored by S. Pellegrina and Acqua Panna and is quite the respected ranking.
"We are proud to support top culinary talent from around the world," Karen Ress, vice president and general manager of Nestlé Waters International Brands, said at Monday's reveal in London. "The celebrated chefs and restaurants on this list embody the values that are at the heart of both S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna -- passion, authenticity and craftsmanship.
More than 900 restaurant industry "international leaders" were involved in creating the list. This included chefs, restaurateurs, food critics and chefs. Norma, which is located in Copenhagen, Denmark, was named the world's best restaurant at No. 1.
In the end, these talented foodies picked 13 restaurants in Latin countries as the best of the best.
At the coveted No. 2 spot is El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain. The Roca brothers, Josep, Jordi and Joan, have run the spot since 1986. El Celler de Can Roca were on Restaurant Magazine's 2011 and 2012 lists at No. 2 as well.
The top 10 also includes Mugaritz in San Sebastian, Spain, D.O.M. in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Arzak in San Sebastian, Spain at No. 6, 7, and 8 respectively.
Restaurants in Lima, Peru; Mexico City, Mexico and Albufeira, Portugal made the list thanks to fine Latino cuisine.
