Oprah Winfrey Quotes: Talk Show Star Speaks Out About Donald Sterling, Says It Would Be 'Really Cool' If Magic Johnson Buys Team
First lady Oprah Winfrey (might as well be) had just one thing to say to Donald Sterling: "We're off the plantation! The plantation days are over!" TMZ Sports caught up with the Queen of talk shows as she exited the CBS building in New York City. She kindly signed autographs, took pictures and politely answered all of TMZ's questions.
Donald Sterling, owner of the Clippers, is probably the most hated man in America right now. After telling his girlfriend V. Stiviano that she wasn't allowed to bring black people around them, he has built a good amount of enemies. Oprah, being not only a black woman but a very powerful one, had a couple of things to say about the subject at hand. First of all, she wanted to remind Sterling that African Americans have been free and "off the plantation" for a very long time now.
Winfrey also informed the TMZ Sports cameraman that she has been "hearing" that Magic Johnson, former basketball star, could buy the Clippers. "That would be really cool," Oprah said as she found it surprising that TMZ, who broke the Sterling story, had not yet heard about Magic Johnson's alleged business venture. Now wouldn't that be coincidental? Johnson's picture with V. Stiviano sparked the rude demand from Sterling and now he might be taking his team!
Despite the level of controversy the story has caused, Oprah says that it isn't personally her biggest story. When asked what she would consider to be the biggest scandal she reported on she answered, "O.J, everyone remembers where they were when the story broke out." O.J Simpson had also been a famous football player and actor back in the 1990s when he was accused of murdering his wife.
What do you think about the idea of Magic Johnson buying the Clippers? Do you think Sterling deserves to own a basketball team of predominantly African American players if he's a racist?
