Kanye West Declares Bill Cosby Innocent, Sparks Outrage Among Fans
Kanye West has a way of causing drama. He used his Twitter account to declare legendary comedian Bill Cosby as innocent, and many followers took this as an offense.
On Tuesday, Feb. 9, night, Kanye tweeted that Cosby is innocent, shocking many of his fans, Page Six reports. One fan even pleaded with him not to stir such a controversy. Another fan claimed that the more that West acts dense, the harder it is to support him. Some got so riled up that he would tweet such a thing that they asked him to already deactivate his account.
Followers waiting for a response from West were disappointed. West continues to tweet about other topics as if he did not do anything to upset thousands of followers.
Even co-celebrities were bothered. "Kanye!! You can't be for real. FIFTY WOMEN. With nothing to gain thanks to a statute of limitations ON RAPE. Oy," Sarah Silverman tweeted. "Scandal's" star, Josh Malina described West as being deluded.
Amanda Marcotte, an American blogger, whose topics usually revolve around feminism and politics, was equally shocked, especially since it seems she was a fan of Kim Kardashian's husband before this tweet came out. Mitchell Sunderland, managing editor for Vice's women's channel said Kris Jenner should revoke the rapper's access to Twitter.
The Cut concluded the rapper's tweet this time can be considered real garbage. Whether or not Cosby had an ally in West, his troubles are not bound to end soon. Cosby is currently facing multiple lawsuits from around a dozen of women who accused him of sexually assaulting them after drugging them. One of the cases recently received a go signal from the judge to move forward. If Cosby were to lose in this case, he may serve 10 years of jail time.
LA Times reported that his camp's bid for the court to dismiss the three counts of sexual assault against him was also unsuccessful because a Pennsylvania judge rejected this. Cosby's lawyers plea to remove the newly-elected Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele from the case fell on deaf ears as well. According to Cosby's camp, Steele is part of a prosecute-Cosby campaign and therefore, would not be unbiased. The judge however, Steven O'Neill, did not agree.
There is a preliminary hearing on March 8 to head out the charges, designed to know whether there is enough evidence to win in front of a jury. If there is not enough evidence, the case cannot move on to become a full-blown trial. Experts however, think the opposite is more likely.
