Mexican actress Kate del Castillo was placed on a hot seat as it was reported that she is being called for an investigation. Mexican officials are determined to take a closer look at del Castillo's involvement with the Mexican kingpin, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. Authorities are going through an investigation as to whether del Castillo's was involved in Guzman's money laundering scheme.

As per the Business Insider, del Castillo was ordered by the Attorney General's office to testify as a witness against her relationship with Guzman. Prosecutors had been investigating on the actress' involvement with El Chapo and if she received money from the cartel leader for the tequila brand that she's endorsing.

Despite the fact that del Castillo was being sought after by the Mexican authorities for questioning, she, on the other hand, is willing to prove her innocence. As for El Chapo's take on her case, during a meeting inside the Altiplano maximum security prison, Guzman took the stand and defended del Castillo.

Guzman's lawyer, Jose Refugio Rodriguez, relayed his statement to Radio Formula telling them that "I don't see any problem [with] any legal prosecution, she did meet interview with me, we did talk of the movie, but it is a lie that she received a single peso on my part, I never gave her a single peso."

In addition to what Rodriguez told Radio Formula, he also explained the motives behind El Chapo and Kate del Castillo's meeting. He then made it clear that del Castillo and her team were working on a film project focusing on Guzman's biography. Though it was Guzman's idea to have his story shared, he never shelled out money for the team to work with, according to Latino Fox News.

Rodriguez told the reporters that "Contacts were made with some Argentine filmmakers would be the one to represent him with directors that was how it worked. Joaquin was merely going to authorize ... the telling of his life story in a film, and there were other projects swirling around, but none of them involved Guzman putting down money."

As for del Castillo's case, the actress is willing to help out and stand as a witness to the trial. However, the Mexican authorities would have to go through the U.S. government for them to reach her.

"Obviously if they want to talk to her, they can come here, through the US government, and she'll be happy to talk, if the Mexican government wants to talk to her, they can call the US government and the US government arranges it," Harland Braun, del Castillo's U.S. attorney, told AFP.
