In wake of the political showdown to win the South Carolina primary, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump released a new ad doubling down on his anti-immigration rhetoric in The Palmetto State.

The 30-second campaign ad, entitled "Jamiel," recounts the shooting death of 17-year-old Jamiel "Jas" Shaw, Jr., who was killed by an undocumented immigrant in 2008.

"Jas Shaw was a 17-year-old football star who was gunned down just outside his home," says a narrator in the ad. "His killer? An illegal immigrant gang member who just got out of prison."

The victim's father, Jamiel Shaw, also appears in the slot endorsing Trump's hardline stance to stop illegal immigration.

"Trump is the only one saying, you're going to dealt with, we're going to enforce that. We're going to enforce that. That's a beautiful thing," Shaw says in the ad, which was released days before the South Carolina Republican primary on Feb. 20.

He adds, "I believe Donald Trump want to make us great again, and he loves America."

In a statement, Trump said his relationship with Shaw has motivated him to campaign against illegal immigration.

"A wonderful young man, Jamiel Shaw Jr., whose father has become a friend of mine, was shot in the face for no reason by an illegal immigrant," said the Republican front-runner, according to The Hill.

"Because of the relationship I have established with his father, Jamiel's death is very personal to me. We must stop illegal immigration," he added

Shaw first endorsed the billionaire businessman last July at a news conference with Trump at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills. He told reporters that political correctness has prevented elected officials from addressing murders involving undocumented residents.

"To me, he said it right," Shaw said, reports The Washington Post. "You don't have to know how to say everything, you just have to have action. ... He's telling the truth."

Last year, Trump issued a proposal to deported all undocumented immigrants, build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and ban Muslims from entering the country.
