'Madam Secretary' Season 2 Episode 14 'Left of the Boom' Recap
"Madam Secretary" aired its Season 2's episode 14 on Sunday, Feb. 14. The telecast entitled "Left of the Boom" showed how Dr. Elizabeth Adams McCord and her team meticulously work on a mission concerning the atomic uranium heist.
As per CBS synopsis posted on TV Guide: "Elizabeth oversees a mission to track down the culprits behind a uranium heist in Eastern Europe, while at the same time trying to prevent the dismantling of an important arms deal in Saudi Arabia, which is threatened by the apprehension of two American teenage girls who intended to join a terrorist group."
Elizabeth tries to prevent the withdrawal of U.S. and Saudi Arabia arms agreement
Madam Secretary Elizabeth invited Saudi native Noura al-Kitabi to be the guest speaker on the conference about the importance of female education. Al-Kitabi is a known advocate of women's education thus she was the perfect speaker for the discussion.
However, the Saudi Arabian royal family believe that Al-Kitabi is an extremist because aside from public speaking about education, there are times that she also criticizes the royals in her speech.
Now, by inviting the advocate, there are people who think that Madam Secretary McCord shares the same views of Al-Kitabi with regards to the royals, so she was asked by the Saudi government to stay away from whom they think is a radical. If she will not oblige, the arms agreement between the U.S. and Saudi would be put on jeopardy.
Elizabeth hates being threatened and she sees the response of the Saudi government as overreacting. She does not want to take back her invitation and would like to push through with the conference with Al-Kitabi as the main speaker so she tried her best to negotiate. She told them that she will not go near the speaker and just listen to the speech from a remote place.
In the end, she had to meet with Prince Asim to get his approval. During the meeting, they also discussed another issue concerning the American teens who were caught planning an attack in Saudi Arabia after joining the jihad.
Elizabeth saw that the meeting was also a chance for her to have the teens released. She told the prince that since she followed their orders, their side must do something for her in return.
As mentioned on Entertainment Weekly, Elizabeth confronts Prince Asim and told him: "We know that Saudi Arabian citizens help fund the terrorist group Hizb al-Shahid, so you're worried that if you give us back our girls, they will tell us which of your citizens are supporting the group."
The case of the uranium heist
Madam Secretary and her team were able to trace and get the uranium back before they could be sold and turned into atomic weapons. With that, everyone thought that everything is now under control and that the crisis are over.
First, the uranium was found and second, the American teenagers were also released and flew back to the States. Things appear to be in place so they relaxed a bit.
However, something was bothering Elizabeth because taking a closer look, they solved the cases pretty quickly. What's more, Saudi officials are usually hard to deal with and would put up a fight before they can agree but this time, they agreed to everything so easily.
Later, Elizabeth put up the pieces and realized that the girls were released in order to bomb the place where the conference would be held, and their main target was the key speaker Noura al-Kitabi. To sum it up, Madam Secretary was played by the Saudi Arabians.
Madam Secretary airs every Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
