Is Ted Cruz Campaign Deceitful? Mark Rubio's Camp Says It Is
Mark Rubio's camp calls out Ted Cruz's campaign by saying a doctored photo of Cruz with President Barack Obama is "deceitful."
The doctored photo appeared on the website called Real Rubio Record and it shows Rubio shaking hands with Obama. It has been captioned with the words "The Rubio-Obama Trade Pact."
It is a well-known fact that, even though Obama is left-handed, he shakes with his right hand, as does Rubio. A Twitter user found the original image that was edited and used in the campaign.
Rubio Campaign Accuses Cruz's Campaign Style of Being 'Phony' and 'Deceitful'
Rubio's strategist Todd Harris brought the picture to light and accuses the Cruz campaign for deceitfulness.
"This is not Marco Rubio. This person, we don't know who that is, but they Photoshopped Marco's face onto somebody else," Harris said. "There is a culture of dishonesty, from top to bottom, in Cruz's presidential campaign. It's reflected in what Ted Cruz himself says. It's reflected by the phony, fake Facebook pages that his supporters put up. It's reflected by calls to Iowa voters saying Carson dropped out."
When asked about the picture, the Republican presidential candidate said that it is fake and Cruz and his camp have been "making things up."
"I think is now a disturbing pattern, guys, it's a disturbing pattern, every day they're making things up. In this case they literally made up a picture," Rubio said.
The 'Obama-Rubio Trade Pact'
Rubio has been attacked by political opponents for his favor of amnesty towards illegal immigrants and other regulations. His opponents dubbed it "Obama-Rubio Trade Pact."
"Rubio cast the deciding vote to fast-track three highly secretive trade deals negotiated by Obama and encouraging corrupt, backroom deals," a news report claimed.
"After more than seven years of the destructive policies of President Obama, we shouldn't replace him with his Republican clone," the same report stated and called the president "Republican Obama."
Additionally, it also includes a widget where visitors can put their contact information to "stand against Rubio."
Cruz Campaign Responds
The Cruz campaign said that the photo was an "illustration."
"It is simply an illustration, I don't think anyone who looked at that website believes it is a real picture of them shaking hands," a campaign adviser explained.
"If Rubio has a better picture of him shaking hands with Barack Obama I'm happy to swap it out," another Cruz campaign spokesman said. "Two days before presidential primary in South Carolina, they want to talk about a picture we used."
