Chespirito Health: Roberto Gómez Bolaños in Stable Condition; Star Is Not Expected to Recover, Source Says
Roberto Gómez Bolaños, who is most commonly known as Chespirito, was reported to be sick in the last few weeks, and his health has not improved.
Sources close to the family say that he is in stable position, according to TV Y Novelas.
Doctors told his family that he is in a delicate state and that he should be resting completely.
A source told Dario Basta that they believe he won't fully recover.
"Mr. Roberto is very ill but stable, the doctors say, who have already informed the family that there is no hope of recovery and to brace themselves for the worst," the insider said.
The star is in bedrest in his Cancun, Quintana Roo home. His son, Roberto Gómez Fernández, spoke more about Chespirito's health.
"My father is fine, with more difficult to move," he said. "But he is resting in Cancun."
In November, Bolaños was suffering from respiratory problems after decades of smoking.
"The best advice I can give is to not smoke," Chespirito said. "It's the worst."
The 85-year-old star started off as an amateur boxer. His stage name was given to him by a producer when he first started off as a writer. The name was taken from the diminutive version of Shakespeare, Shakespierito.
He was discovered when he was trying to apply for a job as a writer for a show. The shows started off at Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada, and it eventually was dropped for the name Chespirito.
"El Chavo" and "El Chapulin Colorado" brought some of his best known roles.
He played an 8-year-old boy in "El Chavo," who would hide in a wooden rain barrel. In "El Chapulin Colorado," he plays a superhero. Matt Groening has said that he created the Bumblebee Man in "The Simpsons" after watching the show in a motel.
