WWE Raw Spoilers, Preview for Feb 22, 2016: Vincent J. McMahon Award Tonight; Roman Reigns Wins WWE Title Opportunity
The road to "WrestleMania" goes into overdrive following the developments at Sunday night's "Fastlane."
Triple H officially has a No. 1 contender for his WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Roman Reigns. At "Fastlane," Reigns speared and pinned Dean Ambrose to secure a spot at "WrestleMania's" main event. Brock Lesnar delivered a fun performance at the "Fastlane" main event, delivering numerous German suplexes and falling through two announce tables -- ironically the German announce table was unharmed. For tonight's "Monday Night Raw," Triple H and Reigns will begin the promotion for their main event.
Meanwhile, what's left for Ambrose and Reigns. A feud against the two could be in the works despite previous hints that Lesnar would enter a feud with The Wyatt Family. But an Ambrose and Lesnar feud seems more of a fresh concept to follow and the steps are already made for Ambrose to call out Lesnar for a "WrestleMania" match since they've brawled at previous "Raw's" and competed at last night's pay per view.
WWE Divas Champion Charlotte defeated Brie Bella on Sunday night. With the Brie storyline likely done -- or likely a tag-team match remains for Monday night, the championship storyline may return to the trifecta of Charlotte, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks as hinted at the last "Royal Rumble." Lynch and Banks defeated Team BAD's Naomi and Tamina at "Fastlane," which may further build their momentum to race for the Divas Championship.
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day completed their "Fastlane" segment by hinting a future match against the League of Nations. It's unknown of a New Day vs. League of Nations match is in the works for "WrestleMania" or just a slight rivalry for TV time, but the tag champions definitely need clear No. 1 contenders if they want a good feud at the April 3 pay per view.
Intercontinental Champion Kevin Owens defeated Dolph Ziggler to retain the title at "Fastlane." No hints were given as to what's next for Owens, or Ziggler, but the champion did tweet about AJ Styles -- who did defeat Chris Jericho via submission -- and reminded the former New Japan Pro Wrestling star about his "Royal Rumble" elimination at the hands of Owens.
Also at "Fastlane," United States Champion Kalisto also retained his title by defeating Alberto Del Rio in a 2 out of 3 falls match.
Tonight at "Raw" will also feature the presentation of the first Vincent J. McMahon Legacy of Excellence Award. It's widely unknown as to the purpose of this segment, if it's to advance a storyline or the company is legitimately recognizing someone. Perhaps the award is to re-introduce someone into the spotlight such as The Undertaker or John Cena.
"Monday Night Raw" airs weekly on the USA Network at 8 p.m. EST.
