'Doctor Strange' Filming Leaked as Cast Seen in London Streets [Video]
A fan got a glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch in the streets of London last Monday, Feb. 22, and he was wearing his costume on the set of the upcoming Marvel movie "Doctor Strange." The photos and videos of the actor working on the set were leaked on social media.
Sanford Dicket shared videos and footage from the "Doctor Strange" set on his Twitter account, which showed Cumberbatch, who plays the titular character, doing a scene with Chiwetel Ejifor, who plays Baron Mordo. Cumberbatch had a long, flowing red robe on, which is part of his character's costume, while Ejifor was wearing his futuristic gear. They were seen checking out something on the pavement.
Another leaked photo revealed Cumberbatch's bloodied face, suggesting that the scene they were filming involved a poignant action sequence. Cumberbatch once told fans that "Doctor Strange" will involve some "crazy sh*t," especially since his character is a master of the mystic arts.
Cumberbatch's Similarities With Doctor Strange
"It's very different, it's an Astral Plane. There's a huge new element to this Marvel universe that's going to be employed in building this story and this character," said Cumberbatch when he was asked what convinced him to play the comic book superhero. He revealed that he was also drawn to the character's "spiritual dimension," and believes that this is something he has in common with "Doctor Strange."
Cumberbatch was exposed to Tibetan Buddhist monks when he worked as their English teacher some 20 years ago in India. "It was a profoundly formative experience at a very young age. It's something I've tried to keep in my life. It features already," he said.
How Powerful Is Doctor Strange?
Before he turned into a sorcerer, the superhero was neurosurgeon named Stephen Strange, who almost died in car accident. His survival tied him to another dimension where he honed his abilities.
"He does cast spells, which in the comics have very sort of tongue-twisty fun names," said the movie's producer Kevin Feige. "He has a Cloak of Levitation that allows him to fly, but he doesn't fly like Superman or like Thor," Feige added. "He can create these mandalas of light that he can use as shields and he can use as sort of weapons.
"Doctor Strange" is scheduled to open in theaters Nov. 4, 2016 and also stars Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton, Michael Stuhlbarg, Mads Mikkelsen and Benedict Wong.
