Google Nexus 6 and 8 Tablets Specs, Price and Release Date Rumors: Android 4.5 Lollypop, Waterproof, Fingerprint Scanner Leaked
Google's Nexus line of products has caught attention across the Internet as it has improved from just a niche Android handset to a mass-market gadget, and has become well-known to users globally.
Google Nexus 6
The release of Google Nexus 6 is one of the most anticipated this year. According to the Christian Post, buyers should be able to get hold of Nexus 6 sometime in autumn of 2014, possibly for as little as $100 (£60) or less.
Features and specs have yet to be confirmed for the phone, but there are claims that the Nexus 6 will have a 20MP camera with HDR mode. Other potential specifications include:
- 5.2-inch full HD and curved LCD display in Corning Gorilla Glass
- 64-bit version of its Snapdragon 800-series chipset with 3GB RAM
- 800-series chipset with 3GB RAM
- Android 4.5 Lollypop
- 3200+mAh battery
- Waterproof
- Access to Google content (videos, movies, games on users' TVs)
There was also a rumor that it will include a fingerprint scanner, which makes sense. Google was said to be in discussions with a group of fingerprint scanner manufacturers from Asia.
Google Nexus 8
Only a few details are known about Google's Nexus 8, which was expected to be out by the end of 2014 and will likely be announced in more detail at Google's I/O developer conference in July. Android Geeks reported that the exact date will be announced sometime in July, as stated by an employee from Google's Dublin office. Even its price was hardly discussed except for a few blogs. PCAdvisor, though, stated that Nexus 8 will be about $200. The exact price is quite hard to determine because of the little information about its design and specs.
The source also added that Google is no longer creating a 7-inch table, but is concentrating on developing an 8-inch tablet. (The market offers only a few 8-inch tablets.) It is expected that Nexus 8 will have a new Android operating system version, too.
