Holly Holm Will Never Resort to Suicide After a Loss
Undisputed UFC Women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm still cannot figure out how someone like Ronda Rousey could even think of suicide as an option following a loss.
Rousey’s admission on the "Ellen DeGeneres Show" continues to draw various reactions, but the obvious person who many will approach is Holm.
Holm has said her piece regarding the suicide issue and has opted to remain mum. Though not that remorseful, the Australian feels that there are better ways to get over a loss than taking one’s life.
Holm and Rousey are different individuals so that is one point that should be considered. The UFC women’s champion knows how it feels to lose and how it can bring her down. That experience happened during one of her important matches when she was still boxing.
“For me, I got knocked out, I got my eye stitched up, and I went to the press conference that night,” Holm said. “I told myself, ‘I need to face this right now. The longer I wait to face it -- the inevitable is there, I’m going to have to face it no matter what, so let’s do it now and get past this. The sooner I can deal with it the sooner I can get beyond it.’”
For the record, the UFC 193 loss was Rousey’s first one. Prior to that, she was on top of the word, so the sudden fall could have been too much to handle. But for Holm and many of the ones who heard about Rousey's suicide option, it seems a wee bit too much.
In yesterday’s post, a source revealed that Rousey may not yet be ready to face Holm again for that much awaited rematch. While Rousey seems to be all good and ready, she is not mentally prepared to do so. To cut it short, Rousey physically looks she is ready but such cannot be said from the inside.
Hence, that makes her recent sighting in the gym and her TV appearances as nothing more than attempts to try and help her get back on track. But the question is whether there is enough time for the former women’s champion to recall her true grit.
Holm will be back in action in a couple of weeks at UFC 196 against Miesha Tate, where she needs to win to keep that rematch with Rousey intact.
Assuming she does get over Tate, the rematch with Rousey is expected to be up in the air again. Will "Rowdy" be able to handle it?
