"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is well underway and the team is keeping the buzz alive with snippets from the set as they work towards the sequel of the Marvel Cinematic Universe project. It seems that the cast and crew of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" are just as psyched for the film as the rest of the fanbase.

"Doctor Who" star Karen Gillan, who is reprising her role as alien Nebula, kicked things off with a tweet and a photo of her on the set. While the image did give the world a glimpse of her signature blue skin, the actress revealed little else about her character.

Although Gillan didn't spoil too much about Nebula, director James Gunn did reveal on his Facebook Q&A that the blue-skinned character will be a bigger part of the sequel than she was in the first film of the franchise. "Other people's roles are bigger too," Gunn said. "It's exciting to have Karen Gillan and Michael Rooker around more. It's really been fun... So far we've had a marvellous time."

Gunn has been very active in talking -- or at least hinting -- about the project on social media. Aside from answering some fan questions, the director also recently posted a photo from the set, specifically one of the Ravagers' insigna. The Ravagers are a space pirate group that the Star-Lord is part of. "I bleed the flames," Gunn wrote on the caption of the image.

There are a lot of comic book adaptations on the big screen in the next few years, but "Guardians of the Galaxy" is one that offered a different flavor from its fellow Marvel superheroes in the first film of the franchise. Going by Gunn's recent Facebook rant on Hollywood taking the wrong lessons from the hit blockbuster "Deadpool," he's eager to continue the series' off-beat and original direction.

"For the theatrical experience to survive, spectacle films need to expand their definition of what they can be," Gunn explained. "They need to be unique and true voices of the filmmakers behind them. They can't just be copying what came before them."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" features returning cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker and Sean Gunn. There are also an impressive set of new cast members joining in the fun including Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and Kurt Russell.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is slated for release on May 5, 2017.
