Here Are 2 More Marvel Films to Watch Out For
The wave of superhero movies is not slowing down. Team Marvel already has a packed roster of big screen adaptations, but there's always room for more. Fox recently confirmed two additional upcoming films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to a report from Comic Book, the new films joining the roster are still untitled, although Fox has announced the release dates already. The first untitled Marvel film will be out in theaters on Oct. 6, 2017, while the other one is set to debut on Jan. 12, 2018.
One of these untitled projects is expected to be the "Gambit" solo film in development. The adaptation was originally set for release on Oct. 7, 2016, but Fox decided to scrap it from the schedule. It was projected to be postponed due to directorial changes as well as delay in filming.
A report from WGNO revealed that "Gambit" is expected to begin filming in March 2016, which gives it just enough time to realistically meet the October 2017 premiere that Fox set for an untitled film. So far, the confirmed cast has been limited to Channing Tatum and Léa Seydoux, but if production begins as scheduled, more news are likely to drop very soon.
For the second Marvel film, the Comic Book report revealed that it could be the sequel to blockbuster hit "Deadpool." The quick-witted anti-hero proved to be a certified favorite as it recently passed $600 million at the global box office, according to a report from Den of Geek. A sequel is just about a given with this box office domination, although there hasn't been an official announcement of a release date yet.
Although Fox has remained mum on the details of the inevitable sequel, other members of the team have been dropping hints on the next installment of the R-rated favorite. Cinema Blend spoke with the writers of "Deadpool" Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and they discussed the mutant characters joining in the fun for round two.
"I do think that's fair to say you're going to get some more fun powers," Reese explained. "...I guess the best way to say it is that we like to see diverse mutant powers. So, I don't think you'll see like five strong characters, you know, super strong characters in the sequel. I think you're going to see people with a diverse range of powers."
Of course, the untitled films could just as easily be any of the other "Marvel" franchises -- maybe "X-Men" or even "Fantastic 4" -- in development, but "Gambit" and "Deadpool" are the most likely candidates up next.
