‘Divergent’ Series: Movie Finale 'Ascendant' Gets a Director
"The Divergent Series: Ascendant" is the series finale and it's on its way to production as the team engages with "Age of Adaline" director Lee Toland Krieger to helm the upcoming movie.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate/Summit is in negotiations with Krieger to direct the last film in the franchise. This comes after Robert Schwentke decided to step down from the director's chair after helming the last two installments of "The Divergent Series."
A separate report from The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the former director decided to leave the project to take a break from rhe back-to-back filming of the series and spend time with his family. The big-screen adaptations are filmed in Atlanta, with filming for the last movie set to begin in the summer of this year.
Although the end of the franchise is in sight, fans can take comfort in the fact that it's still some time away. The third film in the series is still on its way to theaters in a few weeks with the participation of new characters played by Jeff Daniels, Nadia Hilker and Bill Skarsgård.
Recently, the team released a new clip called "Heights." This latest sneak peek on the upcoming film showed Tris and Four sharing a tender moment and looking at the horizon for a sign of life beyond the wall.
"After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, Tris must escape with Four and go beyond the wall enclosing Chicago," the official synopsis on the franchise's website read. "For the first time ever, they will leave the only city and family they have ever known. Once outside, old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless with the revelation of shocking new truths. Tris and Four must quickly decide who they can trust as a ruthless battle ignites beyond the walls of Chicago which threatens all of humanity. In order to survive, Tris will be forced to make impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice and love."
"The Divergent Series" is based on the best-selling trilogy by author Veronica Roth. The cast of the film consists of stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller and Naomi Watts. Producers for the film are Lucy Fisher and Doug Wick.
"The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is slated to be released in theaters on March 18. The final film "Ascendant" will follow with a release date set on June 9, 2017.
