Donald Trump Says Mitt Romney 'Would Have Dropped to His Knees' for Endorsement
Speaking in front of the crowd on Thursday, March 3, at one of his campaign rallies in Portland, Maine, Donald Trump decided to address the earlier tirade of Mitt Romney directed towards him. Trump said it would be quick but it ended up consuming a good portion of his speech.
"I heard Mitt Romney made a fairly long speech," Trump said. "I'll just address it quickly because it's irrelevant. Look, Mitt is a failed candidate. He failed. He failed horribly. He failed badly."
Romney Begged for Trump's Endorsement
Trump also said that he wasn't a fan of Barack Obama and that he threw his support behind Romney, who sought his endorsement after getting the nod from the GOP to run head-to-head against the current president back in the 2012 elections.
"And that was a race that I backed Mitt Romney. I backed him," the Republican presidential candidate said. "You can see how loyal he is. He was begging for my endorsement. I could have said, Mitt, drop to your knees. He would have dropped to his knees. He was begging. True. True. He was begging me."
Romney's Assault on Trump
Romney had some choice words for Trump on Thursday. He said that Trump neither had the "temperament" nor the "judgment" to hold the highest office in the land and questioned his personal attributes to represent the country as its president.
Romney also belittled the domestic policies of Trump, saying that it could bring the country back into recession while his foreign policies could compromise the safety of not just the United States but the world as a whole.
He then dismissed the business acumen of Trump, which the billionaire entrepreneur is known for.
"His bankruptcies have crushed small businesses and the men and women who worked for them. He inherited his business, he didn't create it," Romney said during his talk at the Hinckley Institute of Politics Forum in Utah.
"And what ever happened to Trump Airlines? How about Trump University? And then there's Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks, and Trump Mortgage? A business genius he is not."
Trump fired back, saying that Romney is a choke artist. He said that the real reason why Romney did not run is because the man "chickened out" because of him. Trump also pointed out that had Romney decided to run, Hillary Clinton would have destroyed him in the election..
