5 Most Interesting Tweets that US Presidential Candidates Actually Deleted
As per one of the recent polls, Bernie Sanders has emerged as the frontrunner after getting the better of every other US presidential candidate -- in the most number of deleted Twitter posts this 2016, that is.
According to Politwoops, which is an archive of tweets deleted by U.S. politicians, Sanders is ahead of the pack in terms of retracting previously published Twitter posts, with a total of 58 for the period of January to March 4, 2016.
Deleted Tweets
The senator from Vermont even has more deletions compared to Donald Trump, who is known for his polemic public statements. The real estate magnate has 28 deleted tweets so far. His GOP rival John Kasich tops the Republican candidates with 31.
Ted Cruz, meanwhile, has made 15 omissions while Marco Rubio did 10. Sanders' counterpart Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, has just made seven of it.
The candidates have their own reasons for deleting the tweets, not the least of which are grammar slips, faux pas, blunders and just some on-second-thought discretionary measures.
While the seemingly lack of prudence unbecoming to someone aspiring for the position that requires utmost judiciousness could put you off, just bear in mind that it happens to the best of us. For all we know, the only lapse in judgement on their part is getting a less finicky staff to tend to their Twitter affairs.
Meanwhile, here are five of the more interesting tweets that some of the candidates would rather not have you see.
Trump's Racist Retweet
Back in January, Trump retweeted a post from an account with a Twitter handle of @WhiteGenocideTM. The post features a photoshop of Jeb Bush's face onto another man's body holding a sign that says "Vote Trump" just outside the Trump Tower in New York. The problem is that the account was racist in nature, posting hate messages towards minorities.
Sanders' Grammar Boo-boo
Sanders Twitter account recently launch an assault against Wall Street, wherein he said that the adjectives that could best describe the U.S. financial industry are greed, fraud, dishonesty and arrogance. The tweet has since been deleted so as not to give the impression that he doesn't have any idea of the difference between nouns and adjectives.
Clinton and the White Man
Hillary's photo in a Twitter post showed the Democrat frontrunner shaking hands with a white man who has a tattoo on his arm that reads "white." The photo was removed after it didn't sit well with some followers. The man from the photo already said that his tattoo has no racist undertone.
The 'Selma' Tweet
Sanders' camp posted a tweet to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the civil rights march from "Selma" to Montgomery, Alabama. While the intention is good, the execution failed with the use of a photo from the 2014 film "Selma." Sanders team has already acknowledged the error on their part.
The Intern's Tweet
This one retweet from Trump's Twitter account suggested that people from Iowa could be having "issues in the brain" after one poll has Carson leading Trump, 28 percent to 20 percent. The tweet was deleted and Trump's spokesperson blamed the work on one intern from their team.
