WATCH: 6-Year-Old Girl Jaliyah Manuel Has Basketball Skills That Will Drive You Crazy
Jaliyah Manuel is taking over the basketball world with her crazy basketball skills. Her videos have gone viral with more than 60 million views and she's only six years old.
"I'm amazed. I'm shocked. We didn't know it was going to blow up like this," Jaliyah's father, Jovan said.
Her Instagram videos have been the talk of the internet since last year with her insane dribbling skills. At her age, she can do many things with a basketball that many grown men around the world could not.
What's her secret? "No days off, baby," Jaliyah said. The girl from Louisiana practices basketball drills for two hours every day after finishing her homework. The six-year-old also practices on weekends for four hours.
Starting at One
Jovan Manuel uploaded two videos in November that would change their lives forever. But it all started when Jaliyah was just a one-year-old toddler. She began shooting a small foam ball at 15 months old before learning to walk properly and talk.
"We'd come out with a ladder and 12 cones when she was 2. One hour turned into two hours. And two hours turned into four. Every summer, every day. I played basketball in high school, but I wasn't as good then as she is now," Joven said.
Her wife, Tracy is very supportive of her daughter but was not expecting all the attention Jaliyah is garnering. Tracy is also learning more about basketball through her daughter but wants her to stay humble despite her newfound fame.
"She doesn't even understand all this attention, but we tell her to remain humble. I don't even know much about basketball, but I'm having to learn because of her," Tracy said.
Big Dream
Jaliyah was a guest earlier this month on the "Steve Harvey" show. She revealed her big dream to a worldwide audience while showcasing her basketball skills live.
"I'm going to be the first girl in the NBA when I grow up," the six-year-old proclaimed. It's a big dream indeed, but anything is possible.
And who does she look up to? Steph Curry and LeBron James. Curry is the reigning NBA MVP and has been doing crazy stuff in the basketball court this season while James is still considered as the best player in the world.
Besides dreaming of being a basketball player, Jaliyah also wants to simultaneously help other people when she grows up. "I want to be a nurse and a basketball player," she said.
