Twitter Mocks Trump With #SaferThanATrumpRally
The recent violence at rallies held by presidential candidate Donald Trump became a trending topic on social media on March 21, with Twitter users mocking the rallies with the hashtag #SaferThanATrumpRally.
The hashtag suggests possible dangerous scenarios that people consider to be safer than actually attending one of the controversial Republican presidential candidate's rallies, which have been criticized for causing violence.
Some of the alternatives to a rally suggested by Twitter users included taking part in the plot of the movie "The Purge." The film takes place in a dystopian American future, where the government allows one day of legal crime a year, leading citizens to steal and murder one another. Despite the gruesome plot, one Twitter user still found that option to be safer than a Trump rally.
Apparently being on "Game of Thrones," where characters drop dead on a regular basis with no warning, is also a lot less dangerous than an event for Trump.
Another user suggested a different sort of threatening situation: challenging a feminist to an argument and defending the existence of the gender pay gap.
Others used photos and gifs that referenced pop culture, such as "The Hunger Games" and "Finding Nemo," or made fun of other political figures to make their points.
