GTA 5 for PC, PS4 & Xbox One Release Rumors: Source Says Next-Gen Grand Theft Auto V Games 'Probably Not' Dropping in 2014
A lot of gamers are hoping to see Grand Theft Auto V on PC, Sony PlayStation 4 and/or Microsoft Xbox One sooner rather than later, but is it likely these games will drop this year and is the demand as high as it seems?
According to Michael Pachter, managing director of equity research at Wedbush Securities, a PC version of Grand Theft Auto V is pretty likely.
"Well, the PC version, you know, I think is a very easy port," he said in an interview with Gaming Bolt. "So I am certain that's coming out, and I would bet anything that it comes out this year."
Pachter isn't too confident, on the other hand, about the game arriving on PS4 and Xbox One.
"The Xbox One and PS4 versions, not so fast, because to port from 360 to One is probably very hard," Pachter explained. "If you look at Titanfall, for example, it went the other way. So, I don't even know if it's possible, or feasible."
Pachter argues that there are some ways to get the job done, but it's not likely to happen as soon as eager gamers may like.
"I think they might need to redo the code, which might take them a long time, a year or more, and that's if they spend their time and attention on that, and from everything I can tell, [developer Rockstar Games is] busy working on GTA Online," he continued. "So I would say PC version this year, most likely. Xbox One and PS4, this year? Probably not."
Although the demand is clearly existent, Pachter says that those who own PS4s and Xbox Ones probably already bought Grand Theft Auto V if they wanted it because "those are the hardcore first mover rich guys."
"So it's the next 30 million who may not have bought it, so it might be a compelling title in a year," Pachter said. "I don't think they leave a lot of money on the table, especially because it launched so late in the last console cycle that they likely already got through to those guys."
Although Pachter thinks the PC is the best bet for the next Grand Theft Auto V game, there's a small number of players that don't want this happen. A "DONT MAKE A PC VERSION OF GTA V" petition was formed by "Trevor Phillips" on Change.org at least eight months ago. The petition is still over 2,000 signatures shy of its goal of 15,000, however, so PC gamers probably shouldn't feel too threatened.
